VIDEO: Dangerous driver banned again after police pursuit in Crawley
This footage shows a disqualified driver carrying out a series of dangerous manoeuvres as he desperately tries to evade police. In our view, he was desperately lucky not to seriously injure himself or anyone else. Officers from the Sussex Police Specialist Enforcement Unit (SEU) were on patrol in an unmarked vehicle in Horsham Road, Crawley, on the evening of 28 October when they spotted a Volkswagen Golf undertaking other vehicles and driving at speed. It was also displaying no insurance. The Golf pulled into the Sainsbury’s car park in Crawley Avenue and officers made an attempt to engage with the driver, at which point he accelerated away. He reached speeds of 100mph in a 50mph zone, 80mph in a 30mph zone, contravened a red traffic light signal and travelled the wrong way around two roundabouts. See link to video footage here-
VIDEO: Dangerous driver leads police on pursuit through Crawley
A Crawley man has been sentenced for dangerous driving for the second time already this year. Police on patrol in Crawley on 16 April were alerted to a white Renault Kangoo driven by Lee Houghton. The 38-year-old was subject to a two-year driving ban, having been convicted of drink-driving, dangerous driving, failing to stop when required by police and common assault of an emergency worker on 27 February. The vehicle was spotted near County Oak Retail Park and seen to contravene a red-light signal and cross two lanes of 40mph traffic, before continuing at speed. The Roads Policing Unit officers therefore activated their blue lights and pursued the van through a residential area to Juniper Road, where Houghton abandoned the van while still moving, causing significant damage to a parked car and a brick wall. Protect your property!
Burglars will use a variety of ways to avoid being noticed. They don’t want to be seen or heard by a neighbour or passer-by because they will feel exposed and identifiable. Distraction burglars will pretend to be someone they are not, so it’s important you are aware of the common methods they will use to get you to let them into your property. Here’s some useful advice, firstly on helping to keep burglars out by giving them no hiding place and, secondly, on how to prevent a distraction burglary. Find out more here
